Business Law Basics: Protect Yourself and Your Business

Business law encompasses all of the laws that dictate how to form and run a business. This includes all of the laws that govern how to start, buy, manage and close or sell any type of business. In this workshop, we’ll cover some of the most common types of legal issues business owners encounter. Attendees will learn how to set up appropriate protections, address compliance issues and develop systems to monitor and minimize risk for their businesses.

About the Instructors

Meaghan Murphy is an attorney with Barclay Damon, LLP. Meaghan primarily concentrates her practice on counseling individuals regarding estate planning issues, including drafting suites of documents for high-net-worth individuals facing estate tax concerns and assisting individuals concerned with protecting assets from long-term care costs. She also advises business owners on business succession planning issues and tailors plans to complement their respective individual estate plans.

Mallory Gibson is the Director of Private Attorney Involvement Program at Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York. In this position, she oversees the administration and operation of the PAI program throughout the five-office, sixteen county service area, working to ensure that the PAI program operates to best meet the needs of both LASNNY clients and volunteers.
