John Bowers had been working as a massage therapist for 20 years before he decided to open his own studio; like his massages, he didn’t take it lightly.

A licensed massage therapist and esthetician, Bowers had worked at various gyms and spas and knew he had the skills necessary to start his own operation. He was renting a room in a Center Square Barbershop when the full property became available for lease, and Bowers knew it was the right time.

With support from the Community Loan Fund, he was able to transform the offices in the historic brownstone building into a serene setting, perfect for creating holistic and thoughtful massage for all bodies. Bowers specializes in Hot Stone, Lomi, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Reflexology, and Ashiatsu massage. He combines these techniques to create a customized experience for each client that is based on body type, health, and activity level.

Spa Halcyon also offers waxing, facials, and holistic healing modalities, including Reiki and aromatherapy. Bowers hopes the spa empowers his clients to achieve peace in every aspect of their lives, so that when they leave his studio, they carry their newly found tranquility with them.
